The Saint Lucia Analyzer is pleased to announce an essay competition (500 to 800 words) to all Saint Lucian youth (target age: 15 to 30 years).

Background to the Essay: The 2020 ECCB annual report showed that Saint Lucia’s economy contracted significantly and had the worst decline among all six independent Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) countries. The PM stated in the 2021 Budget Address that “Saint Lucia’s domestic economy in 2020 is estimated by the Central Statistical Office (CSO) to have contracted by 20.4 percent”. Furthermore, according to the 2020 ECCB report, total public sector debt has increased by more than $900M from 2016 to 2020. These numbers clearly show a very challenging future for Saint Lucia which will require careful economic management from our leaders.

Essay Question: What suggestions would you have for our leaders to help improve our economic situation and build a more diversified economy that raises the standard of living of all Saint Lucians?
